FAQs

1. How durable is it over time?

  • Wool is a very durable fiber. Think of how long wool rugs last. They really stand up to traffic. I have two that are more than 30 years old and you’d never know it! However, please don’t pull on fibers. If there is a stray fiber or a mild snag you can trim with scissors or a razor, or if you are skilled enough a set of clippers will work. Should you need to store it I recommend using a Silica packet and an air-tight container appropriately sized for the treasure. You want to keep it dry or you risk mold.

2. How do I care for my treasure?

Do’s

  • Dust with a duster, pat it, use a blow dryer on low, use a soft blush brush, or shake it out.

  • Purchase fiber washes designed specifically for cleaning these fibers. Unicorn fibre cleaners are available through https://feltingsupplies.livingfelt.com/Fiber-Wash_c_111.html

  • Hand wash delicately with Woolite.

  • Dry flat. Air dry, use a hair dryer on low, and reshape if needed.

  • If a treasure is exposed to the sun use a fiber-friendly sun protectant.

  • If a treasure is outdoors you might want to scent it lightly in an inconspicuous spot with essential oils of lavender, lemongrass, or Cinnamon. I have used Skin So Soft bug repellent without harming a treasure as well.

Don’ts

  • Do not rub vigorously, do not wring, and do not put in the dryer (unless you have dryer balls as that is the intended use).

  • Don’t leave exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

  • Don’t leave exposed to where moths or critters might delight in having it for a snack!

  • Please keep in mind that some treasures could have beads or other embellishments that present a choking hazard to young children or small pets. Please keep all the treasures - art, children, and pets safe!

3. What if my treasure gets damaged? Think - Cat catastrophe, wild child, and snaggy things!

  • Please contact me! A photo will provide assistance so that I can determine the extent of the damage.

  • If your treasure is fixable I will gladly do my best to restore it to its former glory. I ask that you pay for shipping your treasure to me and back home to you.

  • If the treasure is however maimed by a chewing dog or some other teeth-gnashing critter it may be beyond repair, but we can cross that bridge if necessary.

4. Can I just fix a problem myself?

  • Possibly, but you will need the right tools.

  • You will need to educate yourself on the process of felting.

  • You will need to be brave enough to attempt it, and responsible if you cause more damage.

  • I would strongly recommend watching the appropriate Living Felt YouTube tutorials https://www.youtube.com/@LivingFelt before attempting and maybe ordering a little kit from https://feltingsupplies.livingfelt.com/needle-felting-kits on which to practice first. Or a wet felting kit if more appropriate.
